Professor Uche Ofodile

Professor Uché Ewelukwa Ofodile is a distinguished legal scholar, academic, and international legal practitioner whose expertise spans intellectual property law, business and corporate law, international trade and investment law, arbitration, food law, and technology regulation. She currently serves as the E.J. Ball Professor of Law at the University of Arkansas School of Law and is affiliated with the university’s departments of Political Science and African and African American Studies. Her appointment as Of Counsel at Ewelukwa Legal reflects a career defined by global engagement, academic excellence, and practical advisory experience.

Professor Ofodile has built an international reputation through her scholarship, teaching, and public service. She is a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government and an Honorary Fellow of the Asian Institute of Financial Law in Hong Kong. In 2021, she was elected to the Council on Foreign Relations, underscoring her standing in global policy and governance circles.

Her scholarship has appeared in leading national and international journals, and she is currently authoring major works on China-Africa trade and business, human rights, and sustainability in Africa. Beyond academia, she has advised governments, international organizations, corporations, and public-interest institutions on issues relating to trade, investment, intellectual property, and international dispute resolution.

Professor Ofodile has also held significant leadership positions within the American Bar Association, the American Society of International Law, and the Nigerian Bar Association. Her commitment to legal empowerment is reflected in initiatives such as the “Patent Bootcamp for Women and Minorities in STEM,” which she founded to expand access to intellectual property education.

Her recent appointment by the United Nations Human Rights Council to the Working Group on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas further demonstrates her growing influence in international human rights and development law. With degrees from the University of Nigeria, University College London, and Harvard Law School, Professor Ofodile combines rigorous academic training with extensive global legal experience.
